Kia ora everyone! My name is Tasmira Begum. It is my privilege to be a part of Don Buck Kura. Teaching is my passion. I enjoy being with children. Originally I am from Bangladesh and have been living in New Zealand for the last 26 years. I am married with one son. I love my family and enjoy spending time with them.

What inspired you to become a teacher?

Being the eldest in the family I used to teach my younger brothers and sisters at home. It was a regular scenario in my family that in the evening I used to sit down with my younger siblings around me and help them with their homework. At the same time did my own studies. Possibly that inspired me to become a teacher.

I believe I am a kind a compassionate person and I can make a positive impact on children’s lives. I feel proud when I think that a played a small part in my students’ lives in their life long journey of learning.

What do you enjoy most about working at our school?

Working together as a team and supporting each other. Most children are respectful to the teachers.

How do you keep your students engaged and motivated in learning?

A positive relationships with children and getting to know their learning styles helps me engage my students in learning. I try to make my learning activities fun and achievable so that everyone can enjoy success. I try to incorporate varieties in my teaching and learning program so that my students don’t get bored.

How do you incorporate parent and community involvement in your classroom?

Parents are always welcomed in my class. They can communicate with me in person or through emails to discuss any issues regarding their children. I enjoy talking to parents about their children’s achievements on the community nights and during parents teacher meetings, before and after school.

What is one of your hidden talents?

Sometimes I experiment and create my own recipe when I cook and they taste delicious most of the time.

Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?

‘Learn something new everyday’ – is the saying that I follow and live my life by. I try to learn from my family, my friends, my colleagues and even from my students.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to cook and watch movies on TV in my spare time.
